Boston University Medical Center - BioSquare D (III)
Third laboratory building in Boston University's BioSquare life sciences research complex. Sustainable shell design and construction process. LEED certified. 160,000 sf.
Weidlinger Associates provided structural design services for the eight-story, 160,000-square-foot BioSquare D building, the third laboratory facility to be built in Boston University's BioSquare life sciences research complex and the first to be used for both academic research and commercial business. Located on a 42,000-square-foot site at 670 Albany Street, the building is sleek and contemporary, with a facade of glass, precast concrete, and stainless steel. The mechanical systems were tightly compressed into the central core of the flexible 20,000-square-foot floor plates, leaving large areas free of columns and pipes for reconfiguration by a variety of users. The facility has a shared auditorium, conference rooms, sophisticated security, and a lobby finished in stone, cherry wood, and stainless steel. Boston University received LEED certification based on the energy efficiency of the shell and building systems and the recycling of construction waste.
