Portland International Jetport - Car Rental Facility
Glass-enclosed car-rental facility and lobby supported by long-span space trusses. 15,000 sf.
Weidlinger Associates served as the structural consultant for the car rental facility and elevator/stair tower that both connect to the existing Portland International Jetport garage. The structural system features supporting space trusses outside the glass box. Unusual for a truss-supported glass enclosure, hangers support the glass from below. The seven-story elevator tower is exposed on one side. The circular moment frame at the stairway tower's perimeter is part of the lateral load-resisting system. The lateral system also includes the space trusses, a curved moment frame wall constructed from steel pipe and tube sections, and a high firewall that separates the car rental lobby from the adjoining six-story parking garage.
